The American Red Elm tree once lined city streets, suburban boulevards, and town squares. Although the species has been under siege since the 1930 detection of Dutch Elm Disease, small pockets remain across the North East and Midwest. American Red Elm is prized for its interlocking grain, distinct growth rings, and light to medium reddish brown heart wood.
